TPS92630-Q1 single LED short with Fault pin's active

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92630-Q1

Hola,

I have a question about TPS92630-Q1 Fault pin's active as below:

How do we have fault signal active?

I try to remove the load LED, but I still cannot get fault signal!

Below is the schematic:

  • Hola,
Can someone help to fix this urgent issue? Thanks ~
  • TI,

I found the reason that why we cannot get the open load signal.

The problem is from DC20 and DC19 TVS diode.

If we put the TVS diode at the Iout path then we cannot get the fault signal active even we remove the LED module.

This may have the ESD protection issue, does TI have any suggestion for this?

By the way, if the Vin is 12V then we will get the Iout voltage over 12V or it will be less than 12V in maximum output current?

    Thanks !

  • Someone can help?

  • Anyone can reply??!!!

  • Hi Jacky,

Sorry for the late reply, I'm the application engineer who is in charge of TPS92630-Q1. As the corresponding forum for this part is in automotive forum instead of LED driver forum. So I recommend to post the questions in the automotive forum, so that I can notice it and reply it in time. If you have any urgent case on the application, please feel free to shoot me email.

May I know the TVS voltage of DC20 and DC19? What i the LED number and forward voltage?
Only when Vin-Vout <100mV, there will be a open fault on the TPS92630-Q1.
Actually if the TVS voltage is low, the current can flow through the TVS directly. So the TVS will act as the LED load.
Because TPS92630-Q1 is a linear regulator, so the output voltage will be smaller than the input voltage all the time. Because there must be a voltage drop between VIN and IOUT to maintain the output current.
  • Hola Anda,

You are my hero...I got the response finally.

    [Anda:]

May I know the TVS voltage of DC20 and DC19?What is the LED number and forward voltage?

    [Jacky:]

VISHAY (VESD05A1B-HD1-GS08) 6.8V TVS & LED is 3V forward voltage the number is one.
