LP8758-B0 Design Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP8758-B0

Hello,

One of my customers is using the IR36021 power regulator with their T1040 design.  This is good for a 40-60A design but their needs is less than 10A.  They are interested in LP8758-B0.  Do you see any issues using this part?  Their current board does not use microvias but uses differential remote sensing for this supply.  Is there a way to make the layout work without microvias, given the tiny 0.4mm ball pitch of this component.  Are microvias basically required in order to use this part? Please advise.

Thanks,

Mehrdad.

  • Hi Mehrdad,
The maximum output current of LP8758-B0 is 16A, so the output current capability should not be a problem when less than 10A is required.
If microvias are not used on the PCB layout, the routing from inner pads (for example from NRST and feedback pins) would be needed to be done on top layer between the outer pads of the LP8758-B0. In this case they would need to use line width and spacing of 2 mils, which is not possible for all PCB manufacturers either.
    Best Regards,Jarmo
  • Thank you, Jarmo. The final design will include a PCB with microvias and we'll revisit this converter at that point.
