LP8860-Q1 Cluster Mode LED Current Flow

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP8860-Q1

Hello,

I have some questions pertaining to the LP8860-Q1 and how it operates in Cluster Mode.  A previous chip used in a customer product had an adaptive voltage output to guarantee the current demanded through the LED string.  The LP8860-Q1 in cluster mode says that the voltage has to be fixed.  What method is used by this chip to obtain the current flow the customer wants?

Thank you,

Steven

  • Hello Steven,

The LED current is regulated inside the current sinks. So it keeps the current stable as long as the voltage at the output is higher than the saturation voltage. Most probably in the previous chip the current was controlled by a voltage accross sense resistor, so it is completely different topology.

    Thanks,

    Best Regards,
