bq33100 EVM- Charger connection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ33100

Hello there,

I have got one BQ33100 EVM board which I want to use with 3 series Ultra-caps. As per EVM application note, I need to change R4, R5, R6, and R7 to lower the charging voltage. If that being not mandatory, can I use my own charger and connect it across 5P and System GND bypassing the charger on board? I understand that I will not have benefit of CHGFET in such case, but would it be harmful too for  CHGFET ?

Thanks,

Digant

  • Hi Digant,
    What is your application?
You need the charge fet for capacitor learning and you need to be able to control the output charge voltage of your charger by having a feedback scheme which the gauge should control for learning to occur as well as to be able to extend the lifetime of your caps. Pls refer to the learning section of the data sheet for further details. That being said, you can't connect 5p and the system ground, except you do not want gauge to learn the stacks capacitance. It shouldn't be difficult to swap the resistors to get the charging voltage you want.

    thanks
