Hi,

I just got a TPS61170EVM-280, but when I try to use the TPS6116x/70x Control Software with the USB-TO-GPIO adapter box, I can't seem to adjust the output voltage of the converter.

The software gives messages in red saying “IC Disabled” or "Error Communicating with USB device".

CTRL Pin Mode always says “IC Disabled”.

The USB driver seems to have installed properly, with Windows 7 saying it's ready to use.

Does this look like a fault with the USB interface box? Or is there some magic sequence to switching things on?

The EVM otherwise seems to work in that if I don't use the interface and fit the jumper on JP1 then I get the correct 24V output for a range of input voltages.

Every time the IC starts from the shutdown mode: Pull CTRL pin high to enable the TPS61170 first.

Hi Helen,

Thanks for the quick response.

The EVM User Guide says that when using control via PC, to remove the jumper, connect the GPIO box ribbon cable and turn on.

That is what I have been doing, with no success.

I have now tried:

a) Jumper fitted on JP1. GPIO box disconnected. Switch on power. Remove jumper. Connect GPIO box.

b) No jumper on JP1. GPIO box disconnected. Switch on power. Fit jumper on JP1. Remove jumper from JP1. Connect GPIO box.

My results are still the same.

If I have the GPIO box connected and then fit the jumper on JP1, my power supply goes to current limit (set at 100ma). Is it allowed to have the jumper and GPIO box on at the same time?

Hmmm... this button does nothing for me. It always says "IC Disabled" no matter how much I click it (and gives the red message).

Is the "USB Bridge is not attached" at the bottom of the window significant?

The green LED is illuminated on the interface, but I can't see any activity (with a scope) on pins 9 or 10 of the 10-pin connector when I press that button on the software. Both pins stay at 3.3V all the time.

"USB Bridge is not attached" means the PC don't recognize the adapter. this is why you can't control the IC. what is operate system of your PC? could you try WIN7 and another PC?

Thanks Jasper. OS here is Win7. Tried another PC with same result.

The adapter installs as a HID device.

Microsoft USB View utility confirms Vendor as TI.

I think I'll have to assume the adapter is defective.

how do you get the GUI? please download the GUI from this link "www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware". drag down to the end of the page and download the "Design Tool for Analog Dimming Using a PWM Signal "

The GUI was from CD "TPS6116X/7xEVM Software & Documentation SLVC149".

I followed your link, but the download was just an Excel file.
