bq76930 cell connections for 8 cells in series - VC5B reference

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930

I'm a new user for the bq76930 and have a few questions for the cell connections to the AFE. I am connecting 8 cells in series for ~32V battery. I've connected Cell 8+ to VC10, Cell 7+ to VC9 & VC8, Cell 6+ to VC7, Cell 5+ to VC6, Cell 4+ to VC5, Cell 3+ to VC4 & VC3, Cell 2+ to VC2, and Cell 1+ to VC1. Do I have the short connections correct for the inputs?

My other question is the VC5B connection. Is it the center point of the cell connections of the 8 cells, so it would connect to the filtered VC4 connection? I have a schematic started and I'm including it here.

I just noticed that my connection for D9-A should go to VC4 instead of VC5, if I'm interpreting the connections correctly.

  • Hi Claude,

It seems your post was overlooked and your schematic does not show up today.  From your description it sounds like you have followed the scheme in the datasheet table 8-2 for 8 cells and it should be correct.

VC5B should reference back to cell 4 in your system but should be filtered separately to the pin.   Cell 4 in your system should have 3 connections going to the bq76930, each with a separate filter:  VC5, VC5X, and VC5B.  Again I don't see the schematic, but the lower protection diode would go from VC5 pin to VC5X pin as shown in figure 8-2 of the datasheet.  There are of course many ways to draw the schematic so yours may look different, it is the connections that are important.
