Battery Management Studio 1.3.45 hangs when switching to advance view of BQ78350-R1 without device connected

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Subject says it all.

That does not occur with release 1.3.42

It happens on two computers.  It is very repeatable
Resource monitor shows no wait chain problem.
bqsbb.exe process uses 0% CPU time.

Both computers are running Win 7 64-bit.

  • Hello Fred,

Does the same behavior happens using the test version of bqStudio (v1.3.47)? Try doing a clean install of the test version on a new directory.

    Thank you.
  • I would suggest the bqStudio development team to try it out. Isn't that their job?

For my part, I can go around and I have lost far enough time with that matter.

I did not find the bqStudio program to hang when the program was in communication with the device. I have not tried the same process without a device connected, but I doubt that this would be considered a valid operating condition. Do you need to use bqStudio without a device attached?

  • Valid operation or not, there is never such a thing as a good reason for a software to hang.
It used to work well. It does not anymore. Gray out the option if the software can't handle it.

Maybe I don't "need" it, but I did use the previous versions a lot without device attached, especially when I disconnect a device and that I look back at the whole device state which is still displayed.

It is also a little more convenient than cycling through the PDF when it comes to the registers mapping, which allowed me to notice that the addresses at TRM p151 do not match with the latest bqStudio. Considering our device behavior, I tend to believe bqStudio more than the TRM.
Stay put for my next post on that subject (I have posted to the wrong group yesterday and the post is stuck somewhere for approval).
