TPS62260-Q1 operation mode default on 5-SOT package

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62260-Q1

Hi folks,

I could not find default operation mode on 5-SOT.

The MODE does not exist on 5-SOT. In this case, Is the device is operate with force PWM mode or PFM?

Also could you tell me know where can I find this description on spec sheet?

  • Hi Keiichi,

TPS62260-Q1 in package 5-SOP operates in PFM mode with light load.

In the paragraph OPERATION in datasheet is written:

The TPS6226x step down converter operates with typically 2.25 MHz fixed frequency pulse width modulation
(PWM) at moderate to heavy load currents. At light load currents the converter can automatically enter Power
Save Mode and operates then in PFM mode.

In the TERMINAL FUNCTIONS is description of the MODE pin.

  • Hi Lubomir,

    Thank you for your reply.
Our automotive customer have a honor of PFM, because it affect to AM radio(~1.5MHz).
I guess a PFM frequency is precisely NOT a constant. it may have like SS function.

    1) Is there any plan to release default force PWM device for TPS62260-Q1?
    2) Is there any technical paper which describe PFM and AM radio freq relationship?
  • Hi Keiichi,

Yes you are right, PFM frequency is not constant.
I don't know what you mean by SS function?

Force PWM is available in package : 6pin SON. Can customer use this package?
What is the quantity for this opportunity?

    Best regards

  • Hi, Lubomir

    SS means "spectrum spread".
Since PFM freq is not constant as you said, I believe that it does not appear sharp frequency peak in FFT.
So if you have any technical document like 2), I will be very happy.

Fortunately our customer changing package into 6-WSON. But they prefer "with lead" package.

  • Hi Keiichi,

PFM is not working with constant switching frequency. It is possible to work with switching frequency above 1.5MHz in PFM mode but TPS62260-Q1 has to be loaded.

Figure 22 in TPS62260-Q1 datasheet shows different switching frequencies for different load in PFM mode.
