Where to start building a Wireless Charging Transmitter

I looked at simple designs of how to make a wireless charging transmitter but none that can charge through desks.

I am trying to design a wireless charger transmitter with qi standard that is able to charge through desks. I guess the power should be able to charge a simple smart phone.
