We are considering using the bq500511 for anew design. We’d like to know what kind of configuration of the system we can do through I2C. The datasheet says "Additional details on I2C use and capabilities can be obtained by contacting TI".

We will release a document on the bq500511 I2C the week of March 7. SLUA767 will be in the device product folder.

Nowaday I am doing the Wireless Charger project using bq500511 - the same with your project. So, Does your project making successful to communicate between bq500511 and MCU via I2C. If possible, share with me how to configure and program your project.

Hello Son,

On the BQ500511 Product Page http://www.ti.com/product/BQ500511/technicaldocuments is a link to an App Note for i2C: bq500511 Wireless Power Transmitter I2C Interface . BQStudio also uses i2C for setup, testing and monitoring.

Thank you for your reply. But my question is do you make successful project that communicate between BQ500511 and MCU (for example st32f2) via I2C.

Now I am trying to communicate between bq500511 and MCU (ST32F205) via I2C, but I cannot get response from bq500511 to MCU. if you can control this situation. Please help me!

See this E2E post: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/wireless_power/f/693/p/534561/1946056#1946056 , and the previously mentioned App Note: www.ti.com/lit/an/slua767/slua767.pdf . All the i2C commands are in this App Note.

And in the datasheet: The I2C port is accessed by the FOD tuning tool and can provide a level of system monitoring and evaluation. which can be downloaded from here: Foreign Object Detection (FOD) Calibration/Tuning Tool (Rev. A)

Please also review your i2C driver from your uC.

Thank you for kindly your help!

As we know, The bq500511 does have an I2C interface that can be used to read / write certain registers and The I2C is used for FOD Tuning. In our system, we connected MCU (ST32F2) and bq500511 via I2C interface, so we would like to monitor and display the battery status on LCD of MCU.

But the very important question is Can we use this I2C for status monitor? It is that mean we can get data from bq500511 (Connected with MCU) via I2C TO DISPLAY ON LCD.

Another question is What would be the best way to monitor the status? I know we can use LED indicator, but using this method is general information, not specific information.

I am very appreciated if getting any response from you.
