TPS79318DBVT 112mV dropout

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS793, TLV733P

I have a customer who is using the TPS79318DBVT and was affected by the TPS79318DBVT requirements. TPS79318DBVT  is an LDO with 112mV dropout that has a fixed output at 1.8V and a UVLO protection that kicks in somewhere between 2.45V and 2.65V causing some issues for the customer.  Customer wants to understand why the 112mV dropout was necessary on the TPS79318DBVT and what application this part is targeted for. He can’t figure out the reason for the 112mV dropout and was wondering if someone at TI can provide some info. can someone help provide some insight into the 112mV dropout?

Customer also wants to see if there is a drop in replacement for the TPS79318DBVT that does NOT have a UVLO range of up to 2.65V.  He needs to be able to use the LDO with an input voltage range that includes 2.4V with a 1.8V fixed output in the same package and pinout.  This LDO is in a SOT23-5 and is 200mA. He doesn’t require 112mV dropout, 500mV is fine.   Can someone recommend a part meeting his requirements?

Thanks,

PSB

  • Hi PSB,

Dropout is not measured for TPS79318 per note 2 under the Electrical Characteristics table. As mentioned in that note, Vin minimum for this device is 2.7 V. As a result, the minimum headroom that the customer must provide is governed by Vin minimum rather than dropout.

The 112mV stated on the front page of the TPS793 family datasheet is specifically for TPS79330. This part number is listed with the typical specification.

TLV733P may be a suitable drop in replace for your customer.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
