Switching power supply between USB and Solar Panel

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22933

Hello,

We are working on Project in which we have two power source either Solar Panel (6V) and USB power (5V). Here we need to give USB power supply as alternative power supply. We have tested oring circuit using two schotky diode but when both supply will be ON at that time, one power source will be affected to other power source using reverse conduction.

Is there any solution available to isolate two supply?

Regards,

Ritul

  • Hello Ritul,

Am I understanding your post correctly. Using two schotky diodes to diode OR your solar and USB source you are seeing reverse conduction through the diodes when both sources are on? I am not sure I understand how that could be happening.

Can you provide a diagram of your circuit explaining the conduction issue you are observing?

Just off the top of my head I would recommend looking at the TPS22933. You will have much lower losses across this device than what you would see with diodes. It will auto select the higher voltage source which will either be the solar if there is good light or the USB if the panel is not producing enough power. These supplies will then also be in a state of non-conduction with one another so that there should be no state of reverse conduction between the two sources.
