TPS82085 - Vin floating

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS82085

In one test case, I did not have power on VIN, VIN is floating, but I applied 3.3V power supply on VOUT, now I measured 2.85V on VIN, but the current on the 3.3V power supply is zero. Can you confirm with TI that in this special case, there is no harm to TPS82085 and I can do this way in real application?

  • Yes, this is the normal behavior for almost any buck converter. There is the body diode in the high-side FET which provides this path. This is shown in the block diagram.

This is ok for the device usually, but note that anything connected on the input will see voltage and may turn on.
