Supercap charging circuit

What is your input voltage and source? What voltage do you need on the super cap? How much current do you want to charge it with?

Input voltage is 5V. I need 4V on Supercap. I need 1A to charge it.

Can it charge capacitor values as high as 470mF (EDLCs)? I want to use it as power backup. When input power goes, I want to use boost regulator to boost voltage on supercap to 5V. But that TPS62750 discharges output capacitor when input power goes. So the other boost regulator cannot hold 5V.

Yes, it can handle that much cap but there is the discharge. It may not be significant if your load on the cap is larger. You can add a diode in series on the output to remove the discharge.

It does not have Tina simulation model. Can you suggest me some other part which has Tina model so that I can simulate and verify once?

For boost regulator, I was thinking of using TPS61021 as it can discharge capacitor till 0.5V (for maximum usage of stored energy). I downloaded Pspice model of TPS61021 and tried to simulate. When I try to create .olb file from .lib file in model editor, it throws an error telling that D_D1 is a reserved name in Pspice. Can you help me with that also?

You can order an EVM to test it in the lab instead of modeling it.

You might look at the TPS82130. With the SS/TR pin, you can set the rise time of Vout. With a known Cout, this sets the charging current by I = C dv/dt. Large capacitances are generally ok for this, assuming you have some ESR.

Sorry. I want boost converter to hold output voltage at 4V using charge on Supercap. TPS61021 can hold 4V as Supercap voltage drops from 4V till 0.5V, right?
