We can use the part’s 100 mA rated current as a limit. But note that the bypass switch has a high Rdson which will cause a voltage drop—this can be significant at higher currents.

As well, there is the TPS62740/3/6/8 instead. These don’t require an MCU to control the low-Iq mode and provide higher efficiency in most applications.
