TPS65132B EVM – About C4 (output capacitor of OUTP)

Guru 21045 points

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to use only negative output voltage(OUTN).

Because, they would like to regulate the negative output voltage in little BOM.

Do we have to connect C4 even if we don’t use OUTP?

They removed C4(output capacitor of OUTP).

Then, this device can't output the target negative output voltage(OUTN= -5.0V).

(So, this output voltage was “-4.7V”.)

[Conditions]

VIN=3.0V to 4.2V

VOUT=-5.0V

Iout=1mA

Kanemaru

  • Hello Kanemaru,

    OUTN should reach -5.0 V in the condition you are describing with C4 disconnected. Are they using the EVM? Did they measure the other outputs?

    Also, what are the initial output voltages, when C4 is connected?

    Best regards,

    Diaara

  • Hi Diaara-san,

    Thank you for your prompt reply.

    - They use EVM.

    - They don’t measure the other output.

    - OUTN is -5.0V when C4 is connected.

  • Hello Kanemaru,

    Since they are not using the positive output, can they try disabling it with a jumper between ENP and off (JP2) and then check OUTN?

    Best regards,

    Diaara

  • Hi Diaara-san,

    I ended up telling mistaken information.

    Actually, they removed C5(output capacitor of OUTN).

    Because, Notation of "VPOS(TP3)" and "VNEG(TP2)" is wrong on EVM.

    (I believe that “VPOS(TP2)” and “VNEG(TP3)” is right.)

    Therefore, they removed "C5" by mistake.

    I sincerely apologize for having caused any confusion.

    And, even if TPS65132B don’t have "C4”, it could output the target output voltage.

    Regards,

    Kanemaru

  • Hello Kanemaru,

    No worries, confusion is cleared now :).

    You are right there was an error on the label positions, VPOS should be next to TP2 and VNEG next to TP3. This was corrected on the current EVM.

    As I said on my previous post, they should also disable VPOS since they are not using it.

    Best regards,

    Diaara

  • Hi Diaara-san,

    Thank you for your response.

    I understand. Thank you very much.
