BQ24296M ICHG unstable in low temperature (5-degree Celsius)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24296M

Hi,

My customer use BQ24296M, the Ichg register setting=512mA,Vreg=4.4V. Active FORCE_20PCT to decrease the charge current.

The waveform is as below: (green-VBAT, red-ICHG)

Is the unstable ICHG caused by Activing FORCE_20PCT register? Or this is a normal phenomenon when charge in low temperature?

Tanks

  • Daniel,

The oscillation should not be a normal behavior. To help debug this issue, can you try below and provide more information. I assume you are trying to achieve 512mA * 0.2 ~ 100mA charge current.

    1. What is the battery capacity?

    2. Remove FORCE_20PCT bit (i.e.  use full ICHG setting) and check for oscillation.

    3. Zoom into the waveform and check for period of oscillation

    4. The voltage jumps around 3/22 23:00. What is the cause of that? It seems very strange for the voltage to rise suddenly at such low current.
