I think there is a fault in the datasheet of BQ76930( page 46).
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The math on the line highlighted certainly is not correct.
The basic process is to select a resistor which will keep a good dynamic range of the CC and the protection limits within the range of the part. The power rating and temperature coefficient of the resistor are also important. Finally the maximum current from the battery applied to the sense resistor must be within the abs max rating of the IC or protection circuitry will be needed on those inputs. For discharge with ground on the battery side of the sense resistor, the induced voltage on SRP and SRN will be positive, so the voltage limit of interest is 3.6V.
