Run dual LM2596's in parallel for 4A safely?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2596, LM2678

Hello gents,

First time posting. I like the LM2596, but I need 4 amps total. I understand the LM2596 can output 3A (heat sink after 2A). I was wondering if I could run 2 of these parallel and use 4A without a heat sink, although if needed i can. Point is, can I run two of these in parallel?

  • Hey Folks, I found the LM2678 chip and have moved on to that, I think that will satisfy my power needs for a while to come. Thaks for Ti for making these forums, although side note, I found this chip on another site then looked up specs here. I maybe new, but I tried the WEBBENCH and didn't see it come up. Maybe I put wrong specs in or something, ill try again soon.

That being said, still would like feed back. I chose this chip for many reasons, mainly because I can solder it myself and not have surface mount. Max Amps is 5, but I am not going to really sue more then 4 so some redundancy is built in.
