phase margin of TPS548A20

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS548A20

Hi

TPS548A20 is D-CAP3 control mode.

So it is not necessary for TPS548A20 to have phase margin design.

However, the datasheet P17 has the contents to measure loop crossover frequency and phase margin by EVM.

Please teach me the reason that datasheet has this contents.

Best regards,

Mitsuo

  • If designed correctly, circuits using DCAP3 such as TPS548A20 will be inherently stable. The usual criteria for 45 degree phase margin is not required. However it may be beneficial to measure the actual performance, especially for corner conditions or designs that vary somewhat from recommended component values. It is possible to design unstable circuits, especially if the loop crossover approaches or exceeds Fsw/2. Also for published reference designs we certainly will check it.
