Hello,
We have a controller with a 24VAC supply and need to output 24VDC or 48VDC @ 20W to drive a contactor (it has to be a DC contactor). Unfortunately we have some space limitations and a Ta target of 90C.
Typically I would consider a bridge rectifier with a big cap into a DC/DC however:
The Cap size takes up too much space
We would need expensive 125C long life caps due to the current and Temp.
I had an idea to boost (mabe buck/boost) straight off the rectified AC without a filtering cap, similar to PFC. I haven’t been able to find many examples and it’s not something I’m familiar with.
The closest thing I have found is a LED driver TPS92560 for low voltage AC and DC supplies.
The questions I have are:
Could the TPS92560 be adapted for this application?
Are there any other SMIC’s that I should also consider?
Thanks for your help.
