BQ78350-R1 LED pins

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350-R1, BQ76920

Question: On the BQ78350-R1 part, are the 5 LED output pins on the part are push-pull outputs or open drain outputs?

An observation: In the part's datasheet, I see that the sink current for the LED pins is around 2 or 3 mA.

Then, I was looking at the LED (LTST-C190GKT) used in the BQ76920 EVM user guide schematic.  Here is a link to the datasheet for the LED:

It looks like the bias current for the LED is supposed to be 10 mA.

I am thinking about using the 5 LED output pins to drive the gate of a BSS138LT3G NFET, with a 270 ohm resistor, then LED to 3.3V above the NFET's drain.  Would that work?

  • That is the same LED that was used on our bq769x0 EVMs, so it should work. The LED outputs are open drain and can support 10mA. We did not use the 270k resistors, so you will need to try it to make sure that the LED illumination is okay.
