In my design, I don't need the back-to-back P-ch MOSFET in the front end of the charger circuit. VCC is therefore connected to the left side of input current sensing resistor. When an external AC adaptor is present, VCC will be powered by the external charger. However, when the AC adaptor is not present, VCC is still connected / powered by the battery.
Since VCC of BQ24610 is always being powered, how does it distinguish between the AC adaptor present and not present? Is it via the voltage sensed on the input current sensing resistor?
