BQ34Z100-G1 SOH can not change to high level.

Dear Sir:

 

Our customer have a BBU product (Like UPS application) apply BQ34Z100-G1 to monitor 6S1P 21.6V 15000mAH battery pack.

Single Battery picture is below.

We teach customer to use Mathcad to find chemistry ID that ID is 425.

Our customer used BQ34Z100-G1 EVM to do battery learning and completed learning process (Learning Status=0x06)

The full Charge Capacity of battery pack is 2422mAh.

The battery status table is below.

Our customer checked SOH but SOH (bit 7) is always at low level and no any change when charge and discharge.

And customer do the action of charge and discharge over 100 times but SOH is show low level.

6S1P battery pack charge and discharge information is below.

Charge current is 5A.

Discharge current is 180A.

Please give us some suggestions for SOH can’t change to high level issue.

  • We checked the firmware and the SOH flag does toggle, but it toggles too quickly to be captured by the register. You will not be able to use this flag to detect when an SOH update occurs.

    Thanks for your reply.

    For this case, I have a question need your support.
    My customer use BQ34Z100-G1 with EV2300 do the battery learning and get Full Charge Capacity=2422mAh and design capacity is 2500mAh.
    SOH should be show this below.
    SOH=(Full Charge Capacity / Design Capacity)=2422mAH/2500mAh = 96.8% or 97%
    But my customer typed design capacity=2500mAh in BQ34Z100-G1 and used bqStudio to read SOH.
    SOH always show 100%.


    Could you provide some comments to solve SOH always show 100% issue.

  • The SOH calculation does not use the standard FCC in its calculation. It uses a special FCC with the temperature fixed at 25C and the SOH current, which is set in the data flash. The SOH FCC cannot be read to know what it is. You could increase the Design Capacity value and reset the device. It will calculate a new SOH and you can multiply that percentage by the Design Capacity to determine what it set the SOH FCC to be.
