Thermal shutdown for Regulator IC (TPS79718DCKT)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS797

In our project we are using TI Voltage regulator IC.

We need to know, in this TI Regulator IC (TPS79718DCKT) thermal shutdown is implemented or not?

I didn’t find any thing in latest datasheet.

In one of the scenarios, we need to short the Output Voltage to GND?

What is the impact if Regulator output shorted Ground directly?

  • Hi Sumit,

TPS797 does not have a traditional specified thermal shutdown.

I did bench a device today and heat up the device. The output voltage decreased to 0V as the LDO heated up. Upon removing the heat it did startup again. This differs from a traditional thermal shutdown as the device did not cycle itself between shutdown and on (effectively producing a square wave). Furthermore, the shutdown temperature is not specified. Please be sure to keep the maximum operating temperature in mind while you design your application.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
