Can't write to the EEPROM in a bq77pl900

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77PL900

I'm trying to get a bq77pl900 to operate in a standalone mode with 6 LiPo cells with cell balancing enabled using the associated TI evaluation software.  The chip is powered at 20vdc, and set to Host Mode (Addr 0x02).  Cells 1 - 6 are enabled for cell balancing (Addr 0x04).  When I try to write to the EEPROM with Enable Cell  Balancing on (Addr 0x09 bit 7), the write fails.  If it's off, the write is successful.

Any thoughts?

  • Is power stable during the write?

Is the error in selecting the bit or during programming?

I've tried programming the CBEN bit with PACK connected and without, with simulated cells and with the cell balance voltage divider method in the datasheet, both seem to work fine.
