Hi Guys

I have two questions regarding to BQ24010 (Li-lon Charge Management IC for Handheld Applications).

1. the normal charging current for my project is only 40mA, based on the datasheet, the pre-charge current will be calculated as one tenth of 40mA = 4mA. The taper current should also be 4mA.

However, the datasheet pages 3 and 4 say the pre-charge current ranges from 10mA – 100mA and the taper current range is 10-100mA as well.

Then, what will be the pre-charge current and taper current for my project?

2. How to sense the battery temperature?

Regarding to Fig. 3 on the datasheet, the Ts pin connected to the internal resistor of the battery. Then, I believe, when the temperature changes, the internal battery resistance will change correspondingly. Thus, the voltage of Ts changes. The temperature sensing circuit in the IC will sense the temperature this way.

However, in reality, there are only two pins on battery (Vcc and Gnd), where to find an extra pin to connect with T_s?

Regarding 1, the tested charging range for the bq24010 is 100 to 1000mA. Same as the prechage current range. For low charge current please consider bq24040 or bq25100.

Regarding 2, TS pin is used to connect to the battery thermistor. The thermistor resistance changes as the temperature of the battery pack changes. If temperature sensing feature is not needed, applying a constant voltage between the VTS1 and VTS2 thresholds to pin TS disables the temperature-sensing feature.

I would highly recommend you to consider bq24040 or bq25100 for your application.

Thank you again for your previous post.

I double checked both BQ24040 and BQ2510x.

Since the output charging current is aiming at 10 mA - 40 mA, I think BQ2510x will be a better fit.

However, I also need status indication function. I want to indicate two status of charging (1. Charging 2. Charging Done ). Are those easy to be implemented with BQ2510x ?

The bq25101 has the charge status indication pin /CHG.

Hi guys

The BQ25101 has only one pin /CHG to do status indication. Is that possible to indicate TWO status ("Charging" and "Charging Done") using BQ25101?

Low (FET on) indicates charging and open drain (FET off) indicates no charging or the first charge cycle complete.
