Application report Creating a Dual USB Universal Car Charger From the TPS40170 and Two TPS2511 - document SLVA520

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2511

Hi,

I have the following question regarding the SLVA520 Application report:

In your reference circuit diagram the current sensing resistors R14 and R17 are showing 200K for TPS2511 in the schematic from page 4 fig 2, however on page 8 fig 3  it is showing 37.4K and circuit reference is R16. Can you please advise which value of the current sensing resistor we should use?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards,

Bogdan

  • Bogdan,

Refer to equations 8 through 11 in the datasheet for calculating the resistor values. The values will depend on the buck controller your using and what change in voltage is desired for the cable length you are using. You may find that you want to increase the 5V rail slightly to compensate for the voltage drop at low current, so 5VOUT may be slightly higher that 5V. Likewise you will need to determine the delta voltage needed when charging near max current.
