bq40z60 Learning Cycle hangs

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60, BQSTUDIO, GPCCHEM

I'm using a bq40z60 in a circuit based on the EVM, and using bqStudio to run a manual Learning Cycle.  Started off with a discharge cycle to the Termination Voltage.  It seems to have hung there.  The Cycle State is "Discharge Mode", the Relax Time is 00:00:00, and the Elapsed Time is past 26 hours.

Thu Apr 21 14:25:22 PDT 2016: Learning cycle started...
Thu Apr 21 14:25:22 PDT 2016: Start task: Discharge ( TerminateVoltage = 3300 mV )

What needs to happen for the Learning Cycle to proceed to the next step?

Thanks.

Please send the log file and I will check it.

  • Hi Thomas,

    Attached is the log file.

    Thanks.

  • There is only a 73% change in DOD during the discharge. The optimization cycle requires at least 90%, so you will need to discharge to a lower Termination voltage. Have you verified that the ChemID match is good?
  • Thanks Thomas.  What's the best way to get a ChemID for the battery I'm using?  I wasn't able to get the bqStudio logs to work with the online GPC tool.

    The battery is a 3S 450mAh LiPo.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Tom,

I think we're almost there.  The gauging is a lot more accurate.  However, while doing an optimization cycle, the device status won't increment to 6 after the latest discharge.  VOK and RDIS are cleared, REST is set, FD & TD are set.  RA Updates seem to be disabled also.

Attached are the SREC and discharge log.  We'd appreciate some help figuring this out.

    Thanks.

The discharge current dropped below a C/10 rate, so the Ra updates were disqualified. I used a Mathcad program to calculate the Ra table, but the results are questionable because the log file did not have charge data. Could you run a charge, rest, discharge and rest profile and log during the entire process? Discharge at a C/5 rate to insure that the Ra table update does not get disqualified.
    Tom
  • Tom,

I discharged at a rate just under C/5 and still didn't get an RA update - log is attached.  Does anything stand out?

I'll run the cycle you requested next.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Tom,

Attached is the full charge-relax-discharge-relax cycle log.

    Thanks for your help.
