bq24650 VSYS and Vout programming or setting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24650

Dear All,

I'm Designing a system supplied by a solar panel (Vmp 6.5V) and a Battery Li-ion (4.2V). I would like to use the bq24650 as a power path.

I have a couple of questions about the bq24650EVM:

1-) To set the VOUT of the EVM (Battery Voltage) , is neccesary to program it via R13 and R15 . But how do I configure the VSYS voltage to provide 5V?

2-) If there is not enought solar irradiance in the panel to supply the the VSYS. What are the conditions to start the battery as a main power supply throught VSYS pin with 5V?

3-) Is it possible to connect parallel cell batteries for charging trought this IC?

Looking forward to your kind reply.

  • Hi Juan,

    1. You set the battery voltage regulation through the VFB resistors. If you have 1 cell battery configuration, you would need 1-1 ratio in the VFB resistors.

    2. You would need to use a buck-boost converter at the system out in order to have 5V output. The system voltage will either be from the solar panel or from the battery, whichever is higher (because of the diode-OR). If the system needs more power than what the solar panel can handle, then the battery will supply the power.

    3. Yes you can connect the batteries in parallel, be sure they have the same ratings.
