TPS61232 fails on connecting load?

please share the schematic and PCB layout image. IC failure normally cause by bad layout

Hi Jasper,

The IC is planned to be used in a production board. So as a test run we had the IC wired up in a general purpose board to test its robustness. In the wired up circuit it failed which put us in doubt whether it works properly. The actual schematic is shared below

Pls tell the possible ways to test it before it goes to production. The wired up circuit is also added here.

FYI the continuous current at output is around 300mA where as an inrush/spike can be near 390mA. The battery being used is a Li-ion with 4200mAH.

1. no surprise to see device failure in the general board. High voltage spike on SW pin will damage the device because of the parasitic inductance of the wire. you can apply an EVM to measure the robustness of the device, that is why we need EVM.
2. you can select TPS61252 if the maximum output current is not higher than 400mA. if requiring 1A, TPS61232 should be use.
3. if using TPS61232, the output capacitor should be a least 3 * 22uF/0805 to make sure the "effective" capacitance higher than 20uF.
4. the current layout is good.

TPS61232 is the fixed output voltage version of TPS61230, you can apply the TPS61230EVM for evaluation, the performance is the same.
