BQ24610 VCC Current Consumption is big

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610

In the BQ24610 datasheet, Off-State Battery Discharge Current is under 15uA.
Off-State Input Quiescent Current is under 1.5mA.

But the Vcc current consumption of my application using BQ24610 is 13mA in Off-State Input Quiescent.
Also the consumption is 13mA in Off-State Battery.

Why is the BQ24610 VCC Current Consumption big?

The circuit of my application using BQ24610 is same as the sample of the BQ24610 datasheet.
But the parameters of ISET1,2,ACSET and Fet model are different.

The current of my system load is 0.5mA(OFF State).
The Vcc current consumption is mesured by putting current probe through the 10Ω resistor(Datasheet R17).
Also, the current consumption of Battey is mesured by putting current probe through VBAT connections.

In measuring the Off-State Input Quiescent, AC adapter is connected without Battery( with system load is 0.5mA).
In measuring the Off-State Battery, Battery is connected but AC Adapter is not connected( with system load is 0.5mA).

The point of this problem is that the consumption is 13mA in Off-State Battery.
Inspite of the off-state-system, Battery is consumed by BQ24610.
Full charged battery gets empty in a few days.

Please tell me if you have some idea.

  • Hi,

Can I see a schematic of your charger system? I want to see if there is anything that may sink that much current.

As debug, try to disable charge by pulling CE low and see if off-state quiescent current is still that high.

Can I also see a waveform of PH, BTST, VCC and SRN during off-state input quiescent and off-state battery?

  • To Steven

Thank you for your suggestions and sorry for late reply.

I checked some waveforms at those points.

However, the system condition was changed in checking

and it was difficult to get the big current consumption again.

The condition was changed after reconnecting battery.

Perhaps the protection circuit of battery was affected.

If I reproduce the phenomenon again,

I will get  waveforms and ask again!

    Thank you,

    Kento

  • Hi Kento,

No problem, you can create another thread if you ever find something else.
