TPS65930 USB configuration and Vintana1 LDO

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65930, OMAP3530

PMIC Team,

I am working of an OMAP3530 design for a customer and I have a couple of questions on the TPS65930 PMIC:

1)            For USB we plan to implement a USB device only, no OTG and no host.  How should I handle the VBUS, ID, and VPRECH pins?

2)            I need a rail to power a thermistor (<1mA) connected to ADCIN0.  The datasheet says that VINTANA1 (ADCIN0’s rail) is capable of 50mA but is for internal use only.  Should I take that literally, i.e. use a different rail (e.g. VDAC_OUT or VAUX2_OUT) to power my thermistor circuit?

3)            Do I really GND the PreDriv_R output if I am not using it?

Thanks,

  • Hi Brad,

    1) VPRECH has to be to GND via 1uF, this is irrespective of which mode you use. For device only I would think that VBUS has to connected to USB connector to provide 5V. For ID, it can be floating since device mode doesnt care about this pin. ID i sspecific for OTG.

    2) Internal regulators should not be used for any external connectivity. You can use any of the external LDOs.

    3) This is a safer option because this pad is muxed with ADCIN7. This is an input. If connected to GND we do not risk any spurious inputs on this. In general floating pins are not recommended to avoid any spurious pick ups that may lead to unknown behavior.
