What is the Vneg (VGL) minimum for the TPS65165

Hi,

In the datasheet, the VGL max is -2V but there is no VGL min ... can we tweak VGL to -6V without problem ?

Thanks,

Sylvain

  • Hallo Sylvain,

As long as the voltage on the SUP pin is 7.5 V or more, you can generate VGL = –6 V without any problem.

The minimum value of VGL that you can generate with a single-stage inverting charge pump is

    VGL(min) ≈ –(VS – 2VF – VDropN)

    where:

    • VS is the output voltage of the boost regulator
    • VF is the forward voltage of the diodes used in the charge pump (about 0.5 V for a Schottky diode like the BAT54)
    • VDropN is the voltage across the negative charge pump current source (specified in the Electrical Characteristics table of the data sheet)

If you need to generate a more negative value of VGL, you can use additional charge pump stages.

  • Thanks Nigel for the quick response ! I appreciate.

    Have a nice day,

    Sylvain
