TPS2379 Compatabilty

Hi Gaayathri,

The PD-9001 is an IEEE802.3 compliant midspan while the TPS2379 is also IEEE compliant. These should be compatible.

For the Phihong midspan, this is not IEEE compatible as the standard only goes as high as 30W sourced. Now, from working with non-standard phihong PSE's we found that some of them only look for a specific detection current then will power up to high power. For example a 12.5k ohms detection resistor. Unfortunately, I tried looking at the datasheet of this phihong part number and was unable to get more detail on how it does 60W.

Looking through the link you sent, I will do not see any text that suggests the Phihong PSE you reference is 802.3.at compliant. I recommend looking for different one that directly says it in their datasheet.

Hi Gaayathri,

Each of these injectors advertise these as IEEE802.3at compliant. This should be compatible with TPS2379 in 30W applications.

I recently viewed a PoE PPT regarding "PD Design Selection Tree" in the forum.
It basically tells about the preferred texas PD for high power applications based on connection(2 pair/ 4pair), power levels(25.5W<P<51W,P>51W).
