BQ studio USB timeout

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQ34Z100EVM, BQSTUDIO

Hello all

Can you provide further information, we are trying to create the data log file in BQ studio and we keep getting USB timeout after approximately 15 minutes. Is there a setting we can disable or change?

We are using the BQ34z100evm associated with EV2400 and BQ studio (v1.3.52).

Thank you

Mohanad

  • Hello Mohanad,

Is your PC going to sleep during the logging? I recommend double checking your USB power settings to ensure the USB port are kept powered during logging even if the PC goes to sleep.

Also, what firmware version is your EV2400? You can verify on the Dashboard panel on bqStudio, make sure you are running version 0.18 of the EV2400 firmware.
  • Well, first of all i checked the version of the EV2400, it is the 0.18.
Second, we checked the USB settings on my computer as well as other computers in the company including an apple mac with windows parallel yet it still does the same timeout crash. Unfortunately since we are unable to log the data for more than 15 minutes, we will log the data the hard way using a national instruments computer. Right now we would like to find out if more parameters have to be logged on top of the parameters referred by the datasheet( voltage, current, and temperature)?? please we are running out of time and have been on hold for a month trying to contact Ti tech. support but it seems like we are not getting anywhere !!
    Thank you
  • Hello Mohanad,

The number of parameters you need to log depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you need to verify basic gauging functionality, a log of voltage, current, temperature, SOC, Remaining Capacity, Full Charge Capacity should suffice.
  • Hello Fernando,

This is David I am working with Mohanad on this project. Could you tell me how it would be possible to talk to someone on the phone about programming this chip. There is limited information on BQ Studio and when we are able to get it up and running to log our data from our cells the program crashes. The USB losses connection. The computer isn't going to sleep and the firmware is the correct version. Whenever we try to talk to someone about this we can't seem to get anywhere with TI.

We have tried to write a Labview program that does the Data logging for us which probably won't be as accurate as the BQ Studio version but it is all we are left with. After we run our test and try to submit it to TI the automatic response gives errors.

We are trying to follow TI document SLVA725.PDF IS this the correct document? If this is the correct document where is GPC Packager in BQ Studio? In the document it says:

"An easy recording method utilizes TI's bqStudio software utility called GPC Packager that reads data
    directly from a TI fuel-gauge.:

Please help us as we really like the chip but have spent months trying to figure out how to set it up with limited help from TI.

    Thanks,

    David

It sounds like you have tried several different computers and they all exhibit the USB timeout problem. Have you been using the same EV2400 for all of these tests? Maybe it is defective. I have not had USB connection issues reported with the product.
