Using ISET pin of BQ25100 to check when charging is complete

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25100

Hi,

We are using BQ25100 for charging in our battery based solution. We see Iset pin is used to control charge current. Can the ISET pin be used to detect when the charging is complete? The reason is that while monitoring ISET using ADC pin we can clearly see the correlation between current pumped in by charger to the voltage measured on ISET. When battery reaches its maximum voltage the current(and hence voltage on ISET) starts dropping and after a while settles at state of not charging. Could you confirm this behavior and if we could use this as detection of when charging is finished

  • Arjun,

Yes, the voltage at the ISET pin can be used to monitor the current level.  The first sentence in section "8.3.6 ISET) in the bq25100 datasheet notes this - but  not quite overtly.

Please characterize the voltage versus current (as you've started to do) to make sure you understand the relationship between the voltage on the ISET pin when termination occurs.

Using ISET as you propose is another method that you can use to take over the charging cycle by your system if desired.

    Regards,
