Difference between TPS62130 and TPS62140 reference circuit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62130, TPS62140

Hi,

Could you tell me about TPS62140 and TPS62130 typical application circuit?
Customers want to know why TPS62130 need 0.1μF capacitor.
It is not needed parts if low output current(≦2A)?

  • Hi Yusuke,

there is recommendation in datasheet for both devices to use 0.1μF from AVIN to AGND.
TPS62130 datasheet section: 10.2.2.2.2.2 Input Capacitor
TPS62140 datasheet section: 9.2.2.2.2.2 Input Capacitor:

For most applications, 10 μF is sufficient and is recommended, though a larger value reduces input-current ripple further. The input capacitor buffers the input voltage for transient events and also decouples the converter from the supply. A low-ESR multilayer ceramic capacitor is recommended for best filtering and should be placed between PVIN and PGND as close as possible to those pins. Even though AVIN and PVIN
must be supplied from the same input source, it is recommended to place a capacitance of 0.1uF from AVIN to AGND, to avoid potential noise coupling.
