BQ76930 SCD bit not going high

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, BQ76930

Hi,

one of my customers is seeing the following behavior:

First time a short circuit happens the discharge-FET switches off, but the SCD bit is not equal to 1. The second time that a short circuit happens the SCD will be equal to 1. Is this an already known issue, and is there a work around?

if you need more information please let me know.

Thanks,

Tadeo

  • It is not a known issue. The apparent behavior of a system will be affected by the MCU. If DSG turns off, be sure to look at the status register when first accessed by the MCU. If the bq78350 is used, check the settings for ASCD and ASCDL. If a proprietary MCU code is used, check its behavior for when the bits are read, displayed and cleared.
Also check that the bq76930 power is not entering the VSHUT region during the short circuit event. However if there is a second SCD it would imply that there is a host control of the bq76930 which is turning DSG on.
