ISO 5500DWR not working

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27714, ISO5452, ISO5451

Hi

I am designing a dc-dc buck boost converter. The input of the buck boost converter is 110 volts and the output is designed to be around 300 volts . I have used iso 5500 as my  isolated gate driver. The problem is that the gate driver is getting burnt but the MOSFET remains unaffected. What may be the problem please help me.

  • Hi Koustuv,

Can you please clarify and share rough schematics or block diagram with load current requirements, to better understand your query. Please also let us know the MOSFET part number. Thanks

    Regards,
    Neer

  • Hi Koustuv,

To drive the MOSFETs of a high voltage Buck-Boost Converter, gate driver like UCC27714 should be suitable. I am moving this post to a relevant forum to get you the best device suggestion.

  • Hello Koteshwar

Thank You for sending in your valuable advice but for my experiment isolated gate driver is necessary. It would be very helpful if you can suggest some IC which has isolation as well as it can drive the MOSFETs with high voltage.

    Thanking You

  • Hi Koustuv,

In that case you can choose to use ISO5451 or ISO5452 based on whether you need a separate output pins or combined output pin with Miller Clamp. Please note that output side supply VCC2 should be at least 15V for driving MOSFETs or IGBTs effectively. Based on over current protection required by your application, please choose appropriate values for DESAT circuitry. If you do not want to use DESAT then you can connect DESAT to GND2.
