About the possibility of Evaluating BQ24296EVM with a third party USB to I2C converter

I want to use BQ24296 battery charger IC in my product, hence I would like to evaluate the EVM first, I wanted to know if we can evaluate the EVM with the help of a third party USB to I2C converter while manually configuring D+/PSEL, /CE and INT pinouts. What I mean is, is it possible to evaluate the EVM without using HPA172 by using a third party USB to I2C converter and interface the same to the BQ2429x tool provided by TI?.

The bq24296 I2C bus is industry standard and so will work with any I2C master. The bqStudio software was designed to operate with EV2300 or EV2400 (not HPA172). We cannot guarantee functionality with other USB to I2C tools.

As per the user guide in the link below

as per section 2.1.6 HPA172-USB Interface Adapter is the recommended adaptor.

I apologize. The bq24296M uses the EV2300/EV2400. The bq24296 uses HPA172. We have not tested whether or not the GUI will work with another USB to I2C interface box.

It will be really nice if you can confirm and let me know, I do not wish to purchase HPA172-USB Interface Adapter as of yet since it is out of my budget.

these things are locally available in the market. Please let me know if it is possible.

If you write your own software or if that adapter comes with software that can perform basic I2C reads and write, then it should work. You may need to pull up the I2C rails to 1.8V or 3.3V through pull resistors.

yes, the eventual plan is to interface with an MCU, before that I want to evaluate with bqstudio software, hence I want to know if it is possible to evaluate with a third party converter, do let me know.
