BQ25896 register REG03 bit 7 is BAT_LOADEN.

Does anyone know what the heck this bit does? It's not documented anywhere else in the datasheet.

Hello Tom,

Some bq2589x, including the bq25896, provides an internal battery load (IBATLOAD) (min. 15mA) to facilitate battery detection. The BAT_LOADEN bit controls the status of the battery load. The host can use this load together with the internal ADC to determine battery presence. Once charging is done, the host can disable charging, enable the battery load momentary, use the internal ADC to measure the battery voltage and determine if the battery is present if the measured voltage is greater than 4V. The battery load can be disabled afterwards.
