BQ76920 BOOT/TS1 required in all cases?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76920

Is it possible to NOT use the BOOT switch as shown in the datasheet schematics?  It seems this is only required if the BQ76920 is put into SHIP mode, correct?  If the device is programmed and then put into operation, no SHIP mode, is it still necessary to activate TS1 pin?

This thread indicates a way to energize TS1 without using the BOOT BUTTON switch, but is TS1 required in all cases?:  https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/battery_management/f/180/p/439874/1581476#1581476 .

  • Leonard,

Yes, circuitry for the BOOT circuit implementation can be downloaded from the device folder bg bq76920/30/40. The bq76920 can be commanded into SHIPmode via the application report slua769.

A boot signal is indeed required , if the bq769xx goes into SHIPmode under any of these condition(s)

    (1) commanded via the i2C by the HOST to goto SHIPmode ( sleep)

    (2) enters VSHUT threshold and goes to SHIPmode.

    (3) enters a VPORZ threshold

If the voltage recovers(POR) above VPORA, then boot will start-up.
