TPS211x / Behavior at current limit condition

Hi,

Please let me ask about behavior at current limit condition because there is no detailed description or waveform in datasheet.

Does TSP211x keep to flow ILIM continuously (constant current operation) or turn off internal power SW and try to turn on automatically (Hiccup mode)?

This is a current limit foldback IC. The output voltage will foldback to maintain the current. Since the output folds back, there will be some dissipation on the pass FET. As such, the IC may reach thermal shutdown if the overcurrent is prolonged.

Hi Fernandez,

Can you look for foldback current limit curve from internal database? Or can you try to measure it? My customer request us the curve like attached which is referred from LDO.

Hi Sonoki-san,

As part of it's protection circuitry, the thermal shutdown will occur when the part begins to foldback and then part will cycle on-off before the measurement can be taken. Therefore, we can't make a graph like shown in the example above unfortunately.
