Layout of the LM3414HV

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3414HV

Hello,

I am designing a metal core lighting board using 4 LM3414HV circuits each driving a string of white LEDs.  My question is regarding the PCB layout.  I noticed that the recommended layout has no routing on the bottom side of the board except for the ground plane.  I was wondering if it was possible to design my board using only 1 layer with no ground plane on the bottom.  I was planning on electrically isolating the metal core from the circuit.  Is this possible without risking performance issues?  Would it work if I tied circuit ground to the metal core?  Is this recommended?

Thanks,

Mark
