Using the BQ2031 as both an SLA charger and a DC power source

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2031

Hello everybody,

Is there a battery charging IC that will power a circuit with a current range of 40mA to 3A, while maintaining a charge on a 12V - 13Ah SLA?

I looked at the BQ2031, but it looks like the Imax which must be at least 3A in this case, will limit the low-end current (Icond) to Imax/5 which would be 600mA. The system may demand less than this on occasion, and the charge system would go into fault state.

Is there any way to change the Icond value to be less than Imax/5, more like Imax/100? If not, then are there any other high-efficiency SLA charging ICs that will allow both high and low current demands?

Thank you,

James
