TPS92513, TPS92511 / Dimming Ratio

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92513, TPS92511

Hi,

I'm recognizing that we must use PWM dimming to achieve dimming ratio 100:1 by TPS92513.

In other words, dimming ratio can't achieve 100:1 by analog dimming only.

And TPS92511 can achieve dimming raio 100:1 by  analog dimming only.

Are these correct?

Best Regards,

Kuramochi

  • Neither can achieve 100:1 analog dimming, that is difficult in most regulators due to offsets. In the case of the TPS92511 you actually want to keep the inductor current in continuous conduction mode so that limits the minimum current a bit more. The TPS92513 can achieve 100:1 PWM dimming but that is the limit. It is current mode control so you can have a constants switching frequency but you have the control loop response time involved. The TPS92511 on the other hand is much faster, you can easily get >100:1 PWM dimming depending on the PWM frequency.
