TPS61202 - add the fuse between Inductor and L pin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61202

Hello,

Our customer add the fuse between Inductor and L pin.
The fuse specifications are 290mohm and 0.6A current.
Also other specifications are the following.

Vin=3V
Vout=5V
Iout=4mA
L=2.2uH
Cout=20uH(MLCC 10uF x 2pcs)

Are there any problem on this case?

For example, are there any possibility to exceeding the 0.6A by the inrush current from TPS61202?

Best Regards,
Ryuji Asaka

  • Its a strange usage, why they series the fuse with the inductor?  generally, it is  in series at the input side.

    If they use a smaller output capacitance, then the inrush current will be smaller. A 4.7-uF cap is enough in this applicaiton.

  • Hello Helen san,

    Thank you for the reply.
    I will check whether they can change the fuse position.
    Is the current placement a problem?

    The customer concern that the CAUX is shorted circuit.
    Can we use series 0.22uF caps on AUX pin for countermeasure of this concern?

    In the datasheet there is the discription about CAUX as the following.
    " Since this capacitor is also used as a snubber capacitor for the main switch, using a X5R or X7R ceramic capacitor with low ESR is important."
    Could you please let me know the low ESR value?
    I would like to confirm whether the series caps ESR is problem.

  • Hi Ryuji_san,

    it is   OK to use two pcs 0603/0402 X7R ceramic caps in series here. If you use X7R ceramic caps, then ESR is not a problem.
