I am currently designing the power system for a small electric vehicle that will use 2x 24V Lead Acid battery packs for the energy source, used in series to give a 48V vehicle power system.
Each removable battery pack will have 2x 12V 35Ah sealed Lead Acid battery packs in series within the pack to make the 24V pack, and associated high current fuse and power switch also on the battery pack.
In use the working current can be <1A during standby, and >100A when the vehicle drive motors produce high torque.
I need a battery monitor system that will provide an accurate fuel gauge, and will help with managing charging and battery life. The output of the battery monitor should ideally be SMBus v1.1.
I would also like to provide a simple push-button activated LED display / LCD display so the user can directly interrogate the battery capacity.
The bq34z100-G1 looks like a good match for my requirement. I would like to know if others have used this in a similar way, what size shunt resistor is recommended (for good accuracy and not too much voltage drop / heat), and what micro has this been married to provide the SMBus interface.
Many Thanks,
Sean.
