About BQ34Z100-G1 design questions...

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1, BQ34Z100EVM

Dear sirs,

Is there anyone can help on my questions?

Thanks.

1. How to connect the Pack+ and Pack- pins? are they same with Bat+ and Bat- ?

2. Can I connect BQ34Z100-G1 to lead acid battery only Bat+ and Bat- which on complete system with gauge IC on it?

The point is I just want to use BQ34Z100-G1 instead of internal gauge IC to monitor battery.

  • Hi Peter,

    1. Connect Pack+ to the BAT pin on the BQ34Z100-G1. If your pack is >5.5 V be sure to translate the pack voltage down before applying it to the BAT pin.

Pack- and Bat- are typically separated by a current sense resistor with SRP connected to BAT- and SRN connected to Pack-.

Pages 4 (block diagram) and 19 (schematic) of the reference manual for the bq34z100evm could be useful to you: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu904a/sluu904a.pdf.

    2. This gauge does support PbA batteries. As I mentioned in 1, you would need access to both Pack- and Bat-.
